The Galaxy System
UNC Pulmonology, a division of Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Inc., is proud to be the first and only medical provider in North Carolina to utilize the Galaxy System™ for robotic-assisted lung biopsies.
Why This Matters for Our Patients
Led by Dr. Franklin McGuire, an interventional pulmonologist specializing in peripheral lung nodules, this program offers a major leap forward in early cancer detection.
Unlike other robotic bronchoscopy systems, the Galaxy System is the first in North Carolina to feature:
- Integrated 3D Imaging: Real-time "augmented fluoroscopy" ensures the biopsy tool is exactly inside the lesion before a sample is taken.
- Greater Accuracy: Reaches deep into the periphery of the lung with 100% successful navigation rates in clinical studies.
- Patient Safety: Uses a single-use, disposable bronchoscope to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination.
