Labor & Delivery
Enjoy a personalized childbirth experience at the Caldwell UNC Health Care Family BirthPlace. You’ll have a compassionate care team to guide you through labor and delivery in a comfortable, welcoming environment for you and your newborn.
Signs of Labor
You may experience false labor or Braxton Hicks contractions toward the end of your pregnancy. They’re irregular contractions that don’t get closer together. Find out what to expect from different types of contractions. Talk to your doctor or midwife during your pregnancy about when to go to the hospital.
Admission to the Family BirthPlace
Contact your doctor or midwife when you have consistent labor pains for at least an hour that don’t go away. Your provider will tell you when to go to the Caldwell UNC Family BirthPlace.
Your Birth Plan
Present your birth plan, if you have one, to caregivers when you arrive at the triage area of the Family BirthPlace. Depend on the supportive labor and delivery team to respect and accommodate your preferences whenever possible.
Cesarean Section Birth
If you have a Cesarean section (C-section) birth, you’ll benefit from the dedicated C-section operative suite at the Family BirthPlace. You’ll stay in the unit—rather than going to the surgery department—for delivery and recovery. And, you’ll enjoy skin-to-skin bonding after your delivery, as long as your baby is healthy.
