David Lowry, MD, MBA, Named President and CEO of UNC Health Caldwell

LENOIR, NC (December 8, 2023) – UNC Health Caldwell has named Dr. David Lowry as its next President and CEO. Lowry currently serves as the organization’s Chief Medical Officer and will step into the CEO role on December 10, 2023. He replaces Laura Easton, current President and CEO, who will retire at the end of the year after 28 years of service to the Caldwell community.

“I’d like to thank Laura for her many years of outstanding leadership at Caldwell and her commitment to improving care for our patients,” said Tammy Scarborough, Interim COO And President for UNC Health’s Statewide Region. “I’m excited for David to begin his new role. He has a long history of serving the Caldwell community with compassion and care.”

Lowry has served at UNC Health Caldwell for 19 years. His new role comes as the hospital begins a $33 million expansion that will add a new cardiac catheterization lab, clinical lab, inpatient pharmacy, kitchen and cafeteria. Lowry received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Life Sciences from Otterbein University in Ohio, a Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a Master of Business Administration from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Lowry is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care.

“As a physician, David understands the importance of our role in keeping patients healthy and happy,” Easton said. “He cares deeply for each and every teammate and has been devoted to the Caldwell County community for many years. I could not think of a better person to fill this role and know that the future of UNC Health Caldwell is bright.”

“I am so honored to have been chosen as the new President and CEO,” Lowry said. “My time at UNC Health Caldwell has defined my career. Each member of our team is devoted to patients and families across Caldwell County and beyond. I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the months and years to come.”
