David Lowry, MD, MBA has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 2004. In addition to serving as the Medical Director of the hospitalist group since 2009, David has held roles as Chief of the Department of Medicine as well as Chief of Staff. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Life Sciences from Otterbein University in Ohio, a Doctor of Medicine/MD from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a Master of Business Administration from Lenoir-Rhyne University. David is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine. David is a member of Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory.
Heather Foss has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 2004. She has held a number of roles including Risk Manager, Quality Coordinator, Lean Facilitator and Executive Director of Risk Mgt., Quality and Performance Improvement. Heather earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and Counseling from Gardner-Webb University and a Master of Health Science from Western Carolina University. Heather oversees many areas in the operation of UNC Health Caldwell including: Quality, Risk Mgt., Compliance, Accreditation, Emergency Management, Patient Relations, Human Resources and more. Heather attends Christ United Methodist Church in Hickory.
Karen Shadowens has worked at UNC Health since June 2021 as the CFO of UNC Health Rockingham. She became the CFO at UNC Health Caldwell in 2022 and serves in a dual capacity at both UNC Health entities. Karen has over 30 years of experience in healthcare finance. Prior to joining UNC Health, she was the CFO at Van Wert Health in Van Wert, OH. She has also served in various leadership capacities at UC Health in Cincinnati as well as IU Health in Indianapolis. Karen obtained a BSB in Accounting and Finance as well as a MBA in Finance from Wright State University in Dayton, OH. She is also a CPA (licensed in Ohio) and earned Fellowship status from the Healthcare Financial Managers Association. Karen is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Sarah Young, MD has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 2017. In addition to her role as a full time hospitalist, she has also served as Chief of the Department of Medicine, is a Physician Advisor for Clinical Documentation and Integrity, and pariticipates on various hospital and systemwide committees. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the State University of New York at Fredonia where she also studied piano, and a Doctor of Medicine/MD from State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Sarah is board certified in Internal Medicine. In addition to serving on the NCPHP Board of Directors, she is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, American College of Physician Advisors and American College of Healthcare Executives.
Jerrell has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 2011. He was worked in several roles in Caldwell Memorial Hospital including Nurse Manager, House Supervisor and Critical Care Nursing. Jerrell received a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma Wesleyan. Jerrell serves as the President of the Gamewell Optimist Youth Sports Club which provides a sports outlet for hundreds of children in Caldwell County.
Allison has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 1997. She began her career as a staff Physical Therapist and has since worked as Director Rehabilitation Services, Lean Facilitator and Regional Administrator II of the Caldwell Physician Practices. Allison obtained a Master of Health Science from Western Carolina University. She also obtained a BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Buffalo in New York. Allison has served as a Board Member for the Helping Hands Clinic in Lenoir, NC.
Brad Christoph, DO, MPH, MS has worked at UNC Health Caldwell since 2021. He joined as a full-time primary care physician and has worked as an urgent care physician and hospitalist for Caldwell. He continues to care for patients in primary care as a board-certified Family Medicine physician. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Furman University, a Master of Science in Pain Research, Education, and Policy from Tufts University School of Medicine, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Campbell University, a Master of Public Health from The Ohio State University, and is currently working towards a Master of Business Administration from Appalachian State University. He has been Medical Director of Helping Hands Clinic in Lenoir since 2022.
