Multitasking Is Not Good for Learning

If you’re trying to remember something, don’t try to do it while you’re distracted. New research shows that when we are distracted, we use a different brain system to learn than we normally would. We also have a tougher time recalling what we’ve learned in new situations or environments. Besides avoiding distraction, improve your ability to remember new things by:

  • Connecting new information to something you already know, such as a familiar song.
  • Using notes and lists to help jog your memory.
  • Repeating someone’s name or other new information when you first learn it.
