Take a Walk on the Wild Side
Walking on cobblestone-style exercise mats is a relatively new form of exercise. And it just might be an ideal activity for older adults. It carries a low risk for injury. Plus, it may offer several different health benefits. In one study, people ages 60 to 88 walked on these mats three times a week for 45 minutes at a time. After eight weeks, they lowered their blood pressure, reduced daytime sleepiness, and lessened pain. They also felt less vulnerable to falling. Journal of Aging and Physical Activity |
